Ambassador David Young

United States of America Ambassador to Malawi David Young has retired from public service after a 34-year career, marking the end of the tenure in the Southern African nation.

A press statement issued by the US Embassy specifies that Young is retiring with immediate effect.

In the statement, Young says serving as an Ambassador to Malawi has been one of his greatest honours.

He says: “I am proud of our work together to save lives and change lives for good and I know that the US-Malawi partnership will continue to endure. I want to help make a difference educating and inspiring future leaders and I want to begin this new service now.”

Amy Y Diaz has since taken over as Charge d’affaires, and, according to the statement, she will serve in that position until a new ambassador is nominated by the White House, confirmed by the Senate and arrives in the country.

Young presented his letters of credence to President Lazarus Chakwera in May of 2022.
