China Announces New Deal to Support Africa

China's President Xi Jinping has announced a new deal aimed at strengthening relations with Africa.

The plan includes a wide range of initiatives to boost economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance security across the continent.

“This provides new opportunities and driving forces for African countries and for our joint pursuit of modernisation,” he said.

The new pact will offer zero-tariff treatment for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in Africa. This means these countries will not have to pay extra taxes on their exports to China, making it easier for them to sell their products.

The deal also includes plans to expand market access for African agricultural products and build economic partnerships.

Additionally, China will help with 30 infrastructure projects in Africa, including roads and bridges. They also plan to support digital technology and connectivity projects to help with the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which aims to improve trade across the continent.

“China is prepared to implement 30 infrastructure connectivity projects in Africa, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and put in place a China-Africa network featuring land-sea links and coordinated development," said President Jinping.

In the health sector, China will set up medical alliances, send medical staff, and support Africa’s pharmaceutical industry.

For agriculture, the plan includes emergency food aid and development programs. China will also support vocational education and cultural programs to strengthen ties between people.

China is launching 30 clean energy projects in Africa. They will also set up weather warning systems and work on disaster prevention, relief, and biodiversity conservation.

China will also provide $140 million in military assistance to Africa. This includes training for 6,000 military personnel and 1,000 police officers.

Moreover, 500 young African military officers will be invited to visit China for training
