Tanzania president Samia Suluhu Hassan has met and held talks with the Anglogold Ashanti Ltd, Dr Alberto Calderon at the Chamwino State House in Dodoma.
In Tanzania, AngloGold Ashanti owns Geita Gold Mine (GGM) and sources ore from Nyankanga open pit and from two underground mines (Star and Comet as well as Nyankanga) in 2020.
Geita has an established 5.2Mtpa CIL processing plant capable of processing hard ore. It also has an established tailings storage facility.
The underground mining method used at Geita is a combination of Longitudinal Open Stoping (LOS) and Transverse Open Stoping (TOS).
AngloGold Ashanti’s Chairperson Maria Ramos said last year during the reception of Calderon as new CEO:
“I am delighted to welcome Alberto as CEO of AngloGold Ashanti following a comprehensive global search in which we considered several excellent candidates. We are confident that, in Alberto, we have the right person to lead this company forward and realise its outstanding potential, drawing on his huge leadership experience in the resources sector across a variety of geographies.”
