The President of the United Republic of Tanzania and Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has issued an emphatic call for peace, democracy, and active participation ahead of Namibia’s Presidential and National Assembly elections slated for 27 November 2024.

In her statement, President Samia applauded Namibia's steadfast commitment to democratic values, highlighting its history of peaceful and transparent elections. She underscored the significance of this electoral process, stating, "This is a moment for the people of

Namibia to demonstrate once again their dedication to the principles of democracy, integrity, and nation-building."
The SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) has been deployed to monitor and assess Namibia’s compliance with the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections, revised in 2021.

These guidelines are crucial in ensuring elections across the region remain free, fair, and credible. President Samia emphasized that Namibia's efforts to uphold these principles not only strengthen its democracy but also contribute to the broader democratic aspirations of the Southern African region.

Addressing Namibian citizens directly, President Samia urged, "Let us see a resounding turnout at the polls as you decide your nation's future leadership. Your vote is your voice, your power, and your duty."

She also called on political actors and their supporters to exercise utmost responsibility and ensure the process remains peaceful and respectful.

President Samia’s words carry significant weight. As Chairperson of the SADC Organ, her reminder of the region's collective commitment to democratic governance reinforces SADC’s role as a custodian of stability and peace.

Her statement also underscores the importance of political maturity and unity during and after the elections, qualities Namibia has displayed repeatedly.

Her Excellency’s message is clear: Namibia is a beacon of democracy in Southern Africa, and this election is an opportunity to cement that legacy. With her unwavering focus on peaceful and credible elections, President Samia’s call resonates with Namibians and all member states of SADC, reflecting the shared vision of a prosperous and democratic region.

As the world watches, Namibia's example will reaffirm the strength of African democratic governance. The region is ready to celebrate another chapter of electoral success, a testament to the enduring ideals championed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
