At least 17 pupils have been confirmed dead, and several others injured after a fire gutted down a dormitory in Endarasha Academy in Nyeri, Central Kenya.
The Thursday night inferno burnt the victims beyond recognition.
According to the police spokesperson Resilia Onyango, 14 others were severely injured during the incident. They were rushed to hospital for treatment.
The cause of the devastating fire is yet to be established as the investigations begin.
Report indicates that the school had 824 pupils, with the ill-fated dorm housing 156 pupils.
President William Ruto has ordered law enforcement agencies to launch an investigation to establish the cause of the deadly fire.
The Kenyan leader said those found responsible will face the full force of the law.
“I instruct relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate this horrific incident. Those responsible will be held to account,” said President Ruto.
Ruto condoled with families who lost their children in the night inferno.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the children who have lost their lives in the fire tragedy at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County,” he added.
“This is devastating news. We pray for speedy recovery to the survivor.”
