According to Obasanjo, the results generated outside BVAS and servers were manipulated, doctored, and did not reflect Nigerian people. In a letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, Obasanjo said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials, at the operational level, have been compromised as they did not use BVAS and servers procured to aid the electronic transmission of the results. ”Until last Saturday night, February 25, 2023, the good and noble plan and preparation for the elections seemed to be going well. For the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a lot of money was spent to introduce Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the Server for immediate transmission of results from polling units. It is no secret that INEC officials, at the operational level, have been allegedly compromised to make what should have worked not to work and to revert to the manual transmission of results, which is manipulated and the results doctored,” said Obasanjo. He said that even though INEC chairman Yakubu Mahmood claims to be ignorant of the ongoing fraudulent activities, he should not fold his hands and watch election results being manipulated. He told the INEC chair to save Nigeria from the looming danger and disaster if his hands are clean by rectifying the errors. He demanded the election in the affected areas be rescheduled for Saturday, March 4. The former President asked President Buhari to save the country from the looming danger if he wants to leave a free, fair, transparent and credible election legacy. Obasanjo called on Buhari to order the cancellation of any result that did not meet the transparency and credibility test and call for fresh polls in the affected area by Saturday, March 4, 2023. “To know which stations or polling units were manipulated, let a Committee of INEC staff and representatives of the four major political parties with the Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association look into what must be done to have hitch-free elections next Saturday,” reiterated Obasanjo. Meanwhile, Obasanjo has appealed to Nigerians to maintain peace and order, hoping the alleged errors will be corrected. “Compatriot Nigerians, please exercise patience until the wrong is righted. I strongly believe that nobody will toy with the future and fortune of Nigeria at this juncture,” he added.
