Nigeria: IGP Set To Deploy 400,000 Security Personnel Across Polling Units

February 18, 2023

By Joshua Samuel Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, has revealed that one of the steps being taken to guarantee trouble-free voting on February 25 will involve the deployment of more than 400,000 security officers around the nation. The Department of State Services, the Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), correctional officers, and National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies (NDLEA) are just a few of the organisations that collectively make up the security personnel. About 310,973,000 police officers are being produced out of the total number of security professionals who will be deployed. According to Baba, each arm of the security forces has developed a special identifying system to prevent shady individuals from gaining access. At the 66th State House Briefings, organized by the Presidential Media Team on Thursday in Abuja, the IGP discussed some of the strategies being implemented by the Police Force. He cautioned people looking to cause problems to be wary, noting that during election days, the police would not be permitted to provide VIP escort services. Remember that President Muhammadu Buhari just gave the police officials a strong warning that the nation was watching to make sure the polls went off without a hitch.
