On Thursday, Kenya won four medals in the ongoing World U-20 Champions at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, outskirts of Nairobi.

Benson Kiplangat bagged the first gold for Kenya in the men's 5000m after beating pre-race favourite Tadesse Worku of Ethiopia.

Kiplangat clocked 13:20:37 ahead of Worku, the men’s 3000m winner on Wednesday.

Another Kenyan, Levy Kibet, settled for bronze after finishing third.

Teresiah Gateri extended Kenya’s spectacular performance in the women’s 3000m by winning the second gold medal. She took 8:57.78 ahead of her compatriot Zenah Yego who chalked 8:59.59.

Ethiopia’s Melkanat Wudu emerged third in 9:00:12.

The global event kicked off on Wednesday, with athletes from more than 100 countries participating.

Kenya’s First Lady Margaret Kenyatta officially opened the showpiece on Tuesday night.

“Over the next few days devoted fans across the globe look forward to watching exciting track and field events. To the athletes your dedicated training, practice and participation in this championships presents you with an opportunity to pursue your dreams,” said Mrs Kenyatta.
