The Ezra Construction and Development Group announced on Monday a 13% reduction in Thermal Energy tariffs for all customers, aimed at alleviating the cost of electricity in Juba’s capital of South Sudan.
The Ezra Construction and Development Group Ltd. (ECDG) is a subsidiary of the Ezra Group. The Group is a leading family-run conglomerate operating across oil & gas, construction, power & energy, real estate, and transportation in South Sudan and the East African region.
This initiative aims to make energy more affordable for all citizens while ECDG continues to pursue sustainable, long-term solutions.
It also reflects the company’s dedication to supporting the people of South Sudan during challenging times, the statement said.
Samson Tekie Ezra, ECDG Managing Director, said that the discount will remain in effect from April to ease consumer burdens until the Nesitu power plant becomes operational.
“The 13% discount on thermal energy tariffs to JEDCO will directly benefit all customers, ensuring energy remains accessible for public and commercial sectors,” said Ezra in a statement issued on Monday.
He said they are committed to transforming South Sudan’s energy landscape for a prosperous future.
“We are committed to providing reliable electricity and ensuring accessible and affordable energy for all sectors of South Sudan,” Ezra said.
As part of our efforts to integrate cost-effective energy sources into the national grid, he said they implemented their Multiple Independent Power Producer (IPP) framework in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Dams (MED) and other key stakeholders.
“We at ECDG, see ourselves as part of the solution and are committed to continuing our efforts to transform the South Sudanese energy and business landscape,” said Ezra, adding together with our partners, we are taking meaningful steps to improve energy access across South Sudan and ultimately build a more prosperous future for all.”
However, Ezra underscored that achieving the full benefits of the framework requires the timely commissioning of the NESITU Power Plant, as this is pivotal to fulfilling the government’s promise of affordable energy.
The adjustment is aimed at making electricity affordable and reliable, in compliance with the National Electricity Act 2016 and a directive from the Ministry of Energy and Dams.
