Gripping new trailer sets the stage for a cultural reckoning in Nigeria and a powerful act of journalism with global repercussions.
Joy, Inc., a leading media company, has announced the release of the trailer for the fascinating docuseries Is It Your Money? A first look at the uncompromising exposé of how Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria's former powerful oil minister and close ally of President Goodluck Jonathan, orchestrated a global corruption scheme before becoming an international fugitive – and shockingly evaded justice. Directed by acclaimed Nigerian filmmaker Chude Jideonwo, known for his bold African storytelling, Is It Your Money? stands poised to be a landmark for the continent's political documentary landscape.
This explosive 4-part docuseries, filmed over 18 months across 3 countries and 15 cities, traces the impact and the alleged millions in illicit profits Diezani accumulated, implicating top global figures. With rare archival footage and exclusive interviews, the series features:
Commenting on the trailer’s release, director Chude Jideonwo said: “The corruption detailed in this story left a trail of devastation across Nigeria, including in the oil-rich Niger Delta where the documentary was also shot extensively, which remains unaddressed to this day. In making this series, we owed it to the people to be uncompromising in our pursuit of the truth, no matter how high up it led.”
The homegrown docuseries, funded by the MacArthur Foundation with distribution led by FilmOne, is set to be released later this year, as talks advance with international streaming giants.
Joy, Inc. Productions is also set to launch a new video-on-demand platform inspired by Oprah's OWN, which will include exclusive hard-hitting African political exposés underserved by mainstream streamers wary of controversial investigative pieces. The platform will be dedicated to serving documentary filmmaking in Africa and aims to provide an economic boost and job creation to the industry.
