Kenyan MP Shot Dead in Nairobi

Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were is dead.

The legislator who is serving his second term breathed his last after being gunned down by two suspected criminals alleged to have been trailing him.

The incident took place at the City Mortuary Roundabout on Wednesday at 7 pm.

Preliminary reports indicate that the gunmen were on a motorbike when they short the Orange Democratic Movement lawmaker before fleeing the scene.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the gunmen alighted from the motorbike and shot the deceased from a close range.

The legislator was rushed to the Nairobi hospital but was announced dead on arrival.

Confirming the incident, the ODM party said the MP was in the Parliament for the better part of the day and he left at 6:15 pm after participating in the business of the day.

The outfit has called for an investigation into the incident.

“While we join his constituents, the people of the great county of Homabay, his family, colleagues and friends in mourning, we call on the police to investigate the shooting incident and bring the culprits to book. We shall issue a comprehensive statement in due course," said the ODM party.
