Rene Awambeng, the Founder and Managing Partner of Premier Invest, has been named among Africa's Top 40 Movers and Shakers to Watch in 2025 by the African Energy Chamber, AEC. This year’s lineup features a dynamic mix of leaders, policymakers, innovators and corporate executives driving transformative change across the continent’s oil, gas and energy industries.

René Awambeng's inclusion in this list is a testament to his fearless innovation, leadership, and unwavering commitment to not only advancing Premier Invest's mission but also contributing significantly to Africa’s sustainable energy future. It also places Awambeng among a distinguished list of leaders, and innovators, who have received this distinction.

The list from the African Energy Chamber, an annual benchmark of influence and innovation, celebrates those at the forefront of advancing Africa’s energy potential. These individuals are reshaping narratives, overcoming challenges and championing investment and sustainability in their respective domains.

Awambeng has established himself as one of Africa's foremost dealmakers. In 2024, the renowned banker and financier launched Premier Invest, a new advisory firm with ambitious plans, including the creation of an investment fund and a trade finance bank.
With over 30 years of experience in corporate and investment banking, Rene Awambeng has a proven track record of driving strategic leadership across international development finance institutions and commercial banks, overseeing transactions worth over $300 billion in sectors like energy, infrastructure and commodities.

Beyond its work in oil and gas, Premier Invest has been instrumental in supporting the growth of renewable energy in Africa. The firm is actively involved in financing solar and wind energy projects and has been a key player in advancing Africa’s energy transition.

In addition to his work with Premier Invest, Awambeng brings a wealth of experience and expertise in energy finance and project development, having previously served as the Global Head for Client Relations at the African Export-Import Bank. His leadership has been instrumental in securing funding for some of Africa’s most promising energy projects, positioning Premier Invest as a key player in shaping the future of Africa’s energy sector.
