As many Malawian youths will continue trekking to Israel for various jobs, mostly dominated by agriculture.

This follows a reported revelation that the Israeli government has created a slot for about hundred thousand jobs for Malawian youths.

The Israeli government has offered Malawi a slot of 100,000 jobs across various sectors.

Speaking at a meeting with the Malawi delegation at the Israeli Parliament Building, Israeli Minister of the Economy Nir Barakt stressed that speed is of essence as other countries, including India are offering huge numbers as well.

Over 200 young Malawians have since, left the country for Israel.

The images of the travelers were highly shared online casting questions on government intentions when creation of jobs locally has become a tall order.

The government’s decision to send its youth to Israel comes after thousands of nationals have been evacuated from Israel due to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

Earlier on, Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency, William Kambwandira, Executive has said it is engaging the National Assembly to address the concerns of Malawians that workers sent to Israel might be at risk of bodily harm or worse.

William Kambwandira, its executive director, described the arrangement as “unfortunate” and akin to modern-day slavery.
