Top U.S. Official Arrives in Kenya for Sudan Conflict Talks

By Samuel Ouma [caption id="attachment_108217" align="alignnone" width="1024"] U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer[/caption] The U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Mike Hammer, arrived in Kenya on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. He is expected to meet Kenyan officials and international partners, where he is scheduled to discuss the ongoing crisis in Sudan. The envoy will also rally regional and international efforts to end the violence, establish democratic governance, and support justice and accountability before departing to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In Addis Ababa, envoy Hammer will hold meetings with government officials, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and other partners. Hammer will discuss the continued implementation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement. He will also call for the protection of civilians and a negotiated resolution to ongoing conflicts in the Amhara and Oromia regions.
