BUEA, July 4, 2023 – Veteran diplomat, Barry Robert Lowen has been appointed British High Commissioner to the Republic of Cameroon, the second British High Commissioner in the space of 2 years for the Central African Nation.
“I am honoured and delighted to have been appointed as His Majesty’s High Commissioner to Cameroon. I look forward to building on a great partnership,” Barry Lowen said on his Twitter account.
Barry Lowen takes over from Dr Christian Dennys-McClure, with the latter only appointed back in 2021. Mr Lowen will take up his appointment in July 2023, according to a press release.
Before being appointed as British High Commissioner to Cameroon, Lowen was the FCDO Africa Directorate, a position he began in August 2022. He was equally Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Bamako from 2021 to 2022 and Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Algiers from 2017 to 2020.
Mr Lowen has worked in India, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the UK Mission to the UN in New York, as well as roles in London, including on economic diplomacy and counter-radicalisation. He speaks French and Arabic.
