Malawi, Mozambique to strengthen ties after Nyusi visits Lilongwe

[caption id="attachment_91059" align="alignnone" width="960"] Lazarus Chakwera and Fillipe Nyusi[/caption] Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera says Malawi and Mozambique are strategic development partners and that their ties must be strengthen further after his counterpart, Fillipe Nyusi visited Lilongwe. Chakwera made the remarks during a State Banquet at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe in honour of Nyusi. ‘’There is a need for the two nations to continue exploring possible areas of cooperation in the areas of trade, transport and mining for the mutual benefit of their people. I also through the SADC Chairmanship want to ensure that is there is peace in Northern Mozambique.’’ Said the Malawi leader. On his part, Nyusi hailed Chakwera for hosting him and said the meeting will go a long way in uplifting lives of people in the two nations. At the moment, the two leaders have officially opened the Mozambique - Malawi power interconnection project. The MOMA project is being financed by World Bank, European Union through KfW and Government of Malawi through ESCOM. Its total cost is USD127 million. Once completed, it will add 50 Megawatts to the country's power grid.
