HAKAINDE HICHILEMA ELECTED PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA.

Zambia's Strongest Opposition Leader  Hakainde Hichilema has won the presidential race making him the  country's 7th elected president.

Mr. Hichilema defeated the incumbent, president Edger Lungu, with 2,810,757 against 1,814,201.
Announcing the presidential results today, Returning Officer to the Election of the Office of the President Hon. Justice Esau Chulu says he is announcing results for the 155 constituencies out of the 156 constituencies.

Justice Chulu says the remaining results from Mandevu Constituency, which it's recepency where delayed, were very few and not likely to materially influence the overall results of the elections and therefore declared Hakainde Hichilema winner of the August 12 Presidential Polls.

Mr. Hichilema was born on June 4th 1962 in Monze District of Southern Province.
He is Married to Mutinta Hichilema and have three children together.

The President Elect was chosen to lead United Party for National Development as it's President in 2006 after the death of it's founder Anderson Mazoka.

And on April 11 2017, Hakainde Hichilema was arrested by Zambia Police and charged with treason after being accused of endangering the life of the then President Edger Lungu. 

This was after his motorcade allegedly refused to give way to the presidential motorcade that was transporting the president.

He stayed in police custody together with his five aides for 100 days before being released to freedom.
Mr. Hichilema has been an opposition leader for 15 years and has failed the presidential race five times with attempts in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015 and 2016 before winning this year's elections.
