The government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Health, on Monday, January 23, 2023, received 5000 cartons of Therapeutic Foods(RTUF) from the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The Principal Secretary of the State Department for Health Standards and Professional Management, Dr Josephine Mburu, received the consignment on behalf of the Ministry.
She hailed the WHO's gesture while reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to tackling acute malnutrition, especially in the 23 counties currently affected by the ongoing drought.
The donation, which is enough to treat 10,000 children aged 6 to 59 months with severe malnutrition, will complement the government's ongoing drought response efforts.
On his part, WHO country director Dr Abdourahman Diallo said Kenya has so far made significant progress in ensuring its citizens get access to quality healthcare and assured of WHO's continued support and partnership with the government of Kenya.
