Kenya: Raila, Gachagua Meet In Mombasa

Gachagua confirmed the meeting through a Facebook post but did not reveal the details of it. "We have tremendous respect for our senior citizens. I was delighted this morning to have a tete a tete with our senior citizen, former Prime Minister Rt Hon Raila Amolo Odinga, in Mombasa," said the Deputy President. Gachagua has been in Mombasa since Thursday, September 15, when he presided over the first meeting of the Council of Governors. On the other hand, Odinga has been in the coastal region since yesterday, where he attended the swearing-in ceremony for the new Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir. The meeting came just a few hours after Odinga jetted back into the country from Zanzibar. The ODM party boss had left the country after losing in the recently concluded presidential polls for healing purposes. "I have been out of the country. I went to recuperate in the Islands of Zanzibar. I took my wife, children, and grandchildren also to go and heal out of the shock they got as a family," Odinga said. Speaking in Mombasa on Thursday, September 15, 2022, the Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate took a swipe at the Judiciary for upholding Ruto's win, noting that it was judicial thuggery. "Shame on the Judiciary of this country. We will talk. The Constitution of this country gives power to the people of Kenya, and all those other people exercising power are exercising donated power. The Judiciary is no exception. If they become rogue, we have power as people of this country to reform them," he said. He said they will wait for the Judiciary to give the full judgment before they chart their way forward.
