Elderly Passenger Dies Aboard Kenya Airways Flight from New York to Nairobi

Kenya Airways has confirmed the unfortunate passing of an elderly passenger aboard flight KQ 003, which was en route from New York's JFK International Airport to Nairobi, Kenya.
The incident occurred on Friday, 11th April 2025, after the passenger suffered a medical emergency mid-flight.

According to a statement issued by the airline, the crew was alerted at approximately 08:40, Nairobi time, that the elderly passenger had collapsed. Three qualified medical professionals on board volunteered to assist in initiating immediate emergency procedures.

"In accordance with international aviation medical protocols, our crew and the medical volunteers did everything possible to stabilize the passenger, including the use of onboard emergency equipment," read part of the statement from Kenya Airways.

To expedite medical attention, the flight was diverted to Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Uganda. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, the passenger was declared deceased by attending medical professionals at 09:10 hours East Africa Time.

After confirming the fatality, and in line with international aviation safety and operational guidelines, the flight resumed its journey to its original destination, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi. The plane landed at 10:27 hours Nairobi time, where it was received by Kenya Airways' contracted medical team, airport security, and relevant authorities.

The airline added that it is working closely with the family of the deceased, local authorities, and aviation regulators to provide necessary support and determine the cause of death.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic event," the statement concluded.
The name of the deceased passenger has not been released, pending family notification.
