The Algerian Government has signed the hosting agreement, officially designating Algeria as the host nation for the Intra-African Trade Fair from September 1 to 12, 2025.

The fair is organized by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in partnership with the African Union (AU) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat.

The signing ceremony was graced by Tayeb Zitouni, Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Mrs. Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President of Intra-African Trade Bank, Afreximbank, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Chairperson of the IATF2025 Advisory Council and former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Others were Mr. Chiza Charles Chiumya, Representing Amb. Albert Muchanga, Commissioner for Trade and Industry African Union Commission and Mr. Chawki Jaballi, Representing H.E. Wamkele Mene, Secretary General AfCFTA Secretariat.

During her address, Mrs. Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President of the Intra-African Trade Bank, Afreximbank, emphasized Algeria's prominent status as one of Africa's leading economies, highlighting its strong industrial infrastructure and commitment to economic progress.

“Algeria has shown a genuine understanding of the importance of this continental initiative. With its advanced infrastructure and strong industrial base, Algeria is well-positioned to benefit from hosting the trade fair,” said Mrs. Awani.

She urged African governments, both public and private sectors, businesses, and industry leaders to actively participate in IATF2025 as exhibitors, buyers, and attendees, emphasizing the importance of working together to achieve the vision of a unified and thriving Africa.

"Hosting a successful trade fair is a shared responsibility that will require strong partnerships among all stakeholders. With the steadfast commitment of the Government of Algeria and our valued partners, we are poised to deliver yet another successful event for the African people,” she added.

Mrs. Awani also underscored the significant changes that the IATF will bring to Africa's economic scene, highlighting its role in cultivating trade connections, facilitating investment prospects, and fostering entrepreneurial growth.

In his remarks, Olusegun Obasanjo stated that IATF2025 would help to diversify Algeria's economy, expand market reach, and strengthen trade ties with African counterparts.

“Algeria's selection as the host country reflects its pivotal role in driving economic growth and integration across Africa. The decision reflects Algeria's commitment to fostering intra African trade and strengthening continental cooperation,” said His Excellency Obasanjo.

He also called for significant investments in road and coastal shipping infrastructure to boost intra-African trade.

Following the selection, Algeria will become the third country to host the IATF, after Egypt hosted the inaugural edition in Cairo in 2018 and the second edition in Durban, South Africa, in 2021.

The IATF provides a unique platform for facilitating the exchange of trade and investment information to support the growth of intra-African trade and investment, particularly in the context of implementing the AfCFTA.
