The Top Employers Institute (TEI) has certified Safaricom as a Top Employer 2024 in Kenya and Africa.
The TEI program certifies organisations based on the participation and results of their HR Best Practices Survey.
This survey covers 20 topics in six HR domains: People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Diversity and Inclusion, and Employee Wellbeing.
The programme has certified and recognised over 2,300 Top Employers in 122 countries across five continents.
“Exceptional times bring out the best in people and organisations. These employers have always shown that they care for the development and wellbeing of their people. By doing so, they collectively enrich the world of work. We are proud to announce and celebrate this year's group of leading people-oriented employers: the Top Employers 2024," said CEO David Plink.
Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa stated that this is a validation of the strong employer brand that the telco has built over the years.
"We are pleased to be recognised alongside some of Africa's biggest companies and intend to use this opportunity to benchmark ourselves against the world's top employers. This award is a validation of the strong employer brand that Safaricom has created over the years by providing an agile working environment and numerous opportunities for employees to grow in their chosen crafts,” said CEO Peter Ndegwa.
Safaricom has implemented a comprehensive set of employee value propositions, which includes talent and career development initiatives, competitive pay and benefits, employee health, safety, and wellbeing, and hybrid working arrangements that provide greater flexibility.
They also provide amenities like mothers' rooms, creches, gyms, and prayer rooms.
Furthermore, the company consistently targets future employees by redesigning and deepening traditional work functions using Gen AI augmentation. This allows people to innovate quickly and on a large scale.
It also actively listens to employees and takes appropriate actions to ensure a personalised employee value proposition.
Safaricom first received the Top Employer certification in 2022 and has maintained it for three years in a row.
In November 2023, Forbes ranked Safaricom as the third-best employer in Africa, validating its focus on putting its people first.
