Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua said the government is working on a way to evacuate them and assist them to return home. Kenyans in Sudan, according to Mutua, have been compelled to lock themselves inside their homes, and they are already in contact with Kenya Airways, which is on standby. “We have a big problem in Sudan. Bombing is escalating, we have about 3000 Kenyans stuck in Sudan and they are scared, they are in their homes,” said Mutua. “Nobody is leaving the house. I want to assure Kenyans that we are aligned, we’ve talked to Kenya Airways they are ready, if things get out of hand to bring Kenyans back here.” He also urged Kenyan citizens to always register with their local diaspora embassies, as this allows for easier communication and response in the event of chaos, disclosing that monitoring unregistered Kenyans in Sudan is difficult. “The Kenyans who have registered with the embassy, we are in touch with them, the ones who did not register, we have a problem finding them,” he said. The ministry intends to issue an emergency phone number so that individuals in need can call them. After weeks of power battles between Sudan's army head Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who is in charge of the potent paramilitary force RSF, violence erupted in the country on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Since then, at least 100 people have died, including three UN officials, and hundreds more have been injured.
