By Joshua Samuel Nigerians have received an apology from President Muhammadu Buhari on the naira redesign scheme. He claimed that it wasn't implemented to bring about suffering but rather to strengthen the economy. The intention to redesign the N200, N500, and N1,000 notes was revealed by Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in October 2022. The old naira notes couldn't be used after February 10 according to the top bank, which caused a shortage of the currency. In a video clip that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor in Kaduna state, Uba Sani, posted on Twitter on Thursday, Buhari said: "I apologise to you for the difficulty caused by the change of the naira. "That was done to strengthen the nation's economy, not to put anyone through hardship."
