Cameroon: FECAFOOT Adopts New Measures for Upcoming Season

Cameroon's Football Federation, FECAFOOT has adopted a host of measures as the country prepares for the start of the 2020/2021 football season. The new season is scheduled to commence September 26, 2020, though the date is subject to changes.

The date for the Elite two Football Championship and the Regional leagues across the country is yet to be communicated. However, the Elite Two, Cameroon's second-tier football championship before starts just a few weeks after the commencement of the Elite One.

Cameroon Football Federation, FECAFOOT on March 17, 2020, joined other federations worldwide in halting football competitions as a result of the growing concerns of the Coronavirus pandemic.

In one of his recent outings, the President of FECAFOOT, Seidou Mbombo Njoya revealed the federation's decision to possibly re-launch the Elite One activities in September and Elite Two shortly.

In the context of the ravaging COVID-19 scare, the matches to be fielded in by the twenty division one clubs will be carried in respect to the following conditions;

# First and foremost, the FECAFOOT boss noted that in collaboration with the competent authorities, the stadiums will be disinfected while health security measures will be deployed.

The matches have been programmed to be fielded without fans; in special cases, few fans can be given access to the playing ground.

Players will be subjected to compulsory COVID-19 before the matches. As at now, this measure is seemingly obligatory in European football and renowned league competitions worldwide.

The football powerhouse in collaboration with local organizations has promised to distribute face masks and hand sanitizers to the players.

According to FECAFOOT, the recent financial aid from FIFA will possibly be used to reinforce health security and facilitate the resumption of football activities, disinfection of Stadia, remuneration of technical staff, maintenance of soccer grounds and financing of the administrative sectors of football.

Worthy to note is the fact that, the FIFA COVID-19 Special Support Fund as a means to strengthen their member associations and indirectly promote local football in Professional football clubs, amateur clubs, divisional and regional leagues, Youth football clubs and Women's football.

In another dimension, the African Football Confederation, CAF has a plan to offer a special COVID-19 package to member associations. The package will be equitably and rationally distributed to the beneficiaries.

In the build-up to the possible resumption of the Elite One football championship, FECAFOOT has continuously encouraged footballers and Cameroonians to strictly adhere to the measures introduced by the government of Cameroon and the World Health Organization, WHO in the fight against the coronavirus.

The Elite One football championship that is scheduled for September 26 will see a total of 19 teams participating this year, down from 20. This comes after UMS Loum was demoted to the Elite 2 after failing to pay former coach Bonaventure Djonkep, more than 7 million FCFA in owed salary.
