BUEA, Cameroon – The President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, Mgr Andrew Nkea Fuanya, has called on Christians across the nation to pray for the quick recovery of Pope Francis. The appeal was made during a special Mass held on March 3 at the Basilica Marie-Reine-Des-Apôtres de Mvolyé in Yaoundé, where clergy and faithful gathered in solidarity with the ailing Pontiff.
The service presided over by Mgr Andrew Nkea, was marked by fervent prayers and a deep sense of unity within the Catholic community in Cameroon. Addressing the congregation, Mgr Nkea expressed admiration for Pope Francis' leadership and dedication to the Church.
“We are proud of the work that Pope Francis is doing for the Church, and we want to continue working with him. That is why we pray for his recovery,” said Mgr Andrew Nkea.
The Mass was attended by bishops, priests and hundreds of Catholic faithful who came together to intercede for the health of the Holy Father, who has been hospitalized since February 14, 2025.
Mgr Jean Mbarga, Metropolitan Archbishop of Yaoundé, led prayers for Pope Francis, invoking divine healing. “Lord Jesus, give health to our Pope,” he prayed, emphasizing the importance of spiritual support for the Supreme Pontiff.
Pope Francis has played a crucial role in promoting peace, social justice, and interfaith dialogue in Africa. His visits to the continent have been marked by messages of reconciliation, encouragement to the youth, and support for humanitarian efforts. In Cameroon, his influence is particularly felt through the Church’s advocacy for peace in conflict-affected regions and its efforts to promote social cohesion.
The Mass in Yaoundé was a moment of spiritual reflection, with Christians expressing their hopes for the Pope’s swift recovery.
The gathering in Yaoundé is one of many initiatives worldwide where Catholics are offering prayers for Pope Francis. The Church in Cameroon remains steadfast in its support, reinforcing the strong ties between the Vatican and the African continent.
With Pope Francis continuing his treatment, the faithful in Cameroon remain hopeful, believing that their prayers will be answered. The words of Mgr Nkea resonate deeply with the Catholic community: “We want to continue working with him.”
