For Martin Awung, a Baltimore resident for over thirty years and the brain behind Platinium Lounge, the strong response from the public is a vindication of his vision to spice the Afro-Caribbean landscape with fun, quality, affordable entertainment space. A former President of the Association of Cameroonians in Baltimore, Martin Awung says what Platinium offers now is just a tip of the iceberg with big plans underway to make the experience even merrier from more dishes on the menu, to a host of other entertainment gigs.

Regulars at the Lounge are just going with flow and having a fun filled summer. From upbeat classical music, and life band with a drummer entertaining diners, to crab nights on Tuesdays, the young crowd on Wednesdays to afro-beats serenading from Thursday to Sunday nights, there is a niche for everyone one way or the other at Platinium Lounge and Restaurant.

“The atmosphere here is relaxing, and friendly, the staff are courteous, and the food is super delicious,” says a middle-aged diner who preferred to be called Taylor M. In the company of four other friends on a weekday evening, Taylor M says Platinium has become a favorable spot for them to relax, unwind from the daily stress and soak in some much-needed summer fun.

For other guests that this reporter spoke to, especially those from West and Central Africa, the emergence of Platinium has spared them long commutes to other parts of Maryland in PG and Montgomery counties where the afro nightlife is more established. Weekends at Platinium Lounge are sufficiently entertaining and gratifying for me and my friends, said Jude, who identified as a native of Nigeria.

As the saying goes around Platinium, every visit becomes an extraordinary experience

The blend of cultural diversity, putting a smile on people faces, and generally just seeing people having fun is something that Martin Awung and his staff take strong delight in. Ever passionate about community service, Awung says at Platinium, the interests, preferences and satisfaction of customers will remain premium.
