BUEA, Cameroon – Zofoa Njoya Sake has been installed as the new South West Regional Delegate of Elections Cameroon, ELECAM on March 5, 2024, in Buea, having been appointed to head the institution following a decree on February 28. The installation ceremony was graced by the presence of the Director General for ELECAM Dr Erik Essouse and other stakeholders in the region.
The 51-year-old who takes over from Mewanu Divine served as the Regional Delegate for the North West Region in 2022 and has been charged by the Director General of ELECAM to reciprocate in an exemplary manner what his predecessor accomplished while in the position.
"We expect him to continue the good work the outgoing Delegate has done by sensitizing the population about the electoral list, manage personnel by providing all resources needed to make work easier and abide by the laws,” Dr Erik Essousse emphasized.
“Starting his career in the North West Region, we think that him coming to the South West Region, we are confident that he will carry on with his duties by uplifting the colours of ELECAM in the region.”
Leaving the North West Region which is also affected by the ongoing Anglophone crisis, the incoming delegate Zofoa Njoya Sake has promised to deliver in his line of responsibilities as the region is his second home.
"The South West is not a new place for me. I grew up here and was equally schooled here, which facilitates my work. I would like to call on all my collaborators for the support they extended to me that made me succeed while in the North West Region should be reciprocated in the South West Region."
“Notwithstanding, ELECAM is out to do a credible, transparent, and trustworthy election, where I call on the stakeholders in the region to support this bureau for a smooth run of ELECAM activities in the region,” he added.
As 2025 draws closer which is an electoral year in Cameroon, the incoming Delegate equally promised to increase the number of voters in the region. It should be noted, that since the start of the ongoing crisis in the North West and South West regions of the country, elections in this part of the country have been very timid as many shy away from such activities.
Zofoa Njoya Sake added: “This is one of my duties in the region to see that all the youths who are 20 years and above register on the electoral list. This will enable them to choose the leaders of tomorrow. I call on all those still dragging their feats, to come on board and register at mass as 2025 is drawing closer, preparation is now. I equally plead with all stakeholders to join forces with ELECAM to achieve this assignment,”
The installation ceremony saw the award of gifts from the Director General of ELECAM to both the incoming and outgoing delegates signifying the passing over of the baton between the two officials. After serving the people of the South West region for 14 years since his appointment in 2010, Mewanu Divine Mukoto worked with the National Elections Observatory (NEO) in Meme Division from 2002 to 2008 and equally served as the Divisional branch head for Meme from 2010 to 2018, where he moved to the South West Region as a Delegate.
Mewanu goes on retirement with many realized projects in the minds of his workers and colleagues, who will only be remembered by his works in the region.
“He is an example to copy. We congratulate him for such a brilliant career as he served our institution with so much loyalty, devotion, and commitment that has earned him several recommendations from his hierarchy,” Dr Erik Essouse narrates.
“He is a man with remarkable qualities that caught the keen attention of his hierarchy and won the admiration of his collaborators and colleagues.”
As the election year in the country is fast approaching, the South West population as a whole awaits the new developments that will be established by the new delegate as he seeks to strengthen the voter turnout in the region.
