Rwanda’s Former Police Chief, Gasana Emmanuel, Suspended from Gubernatorial Duties

Gasana Emmanuel who held a rank of Commissioner General in Rwanda National Police, has been suspended from gubernatorial duties

Gasana Emmanuel, the former chief of the Rwanda National Police and the current Governor of Eastern Province, has been suspended from his gubernatorial duties. President Paul Kagame made the decision, citing undisclosed matters currently under investigation.

Gasana Emmanuel, who once held the esteemed position of Rwanda's Police Chief for a decade until 2018, has faced this unexpected setback. The suspension was officially announced through a communiqué from Rwanda's Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday, October 25, 2023.

This is not  the first time Gasana has been suspended from his duties. In May 2020, while serving as the Governor of the Southern Province in Rwanda, he faced a similar suspension. What's remarkable is that in March 2021, he was appointed as the Governor of Eastern Province without any public announcement of the results of the previous investigation that led to his suspension.

In September of this year, Gasana Emmanuel, along with several other police comrades, were retired from the Rwanda National Police.
