NJ Ayuk: SANPC Must Champion ‘Brand South Africa’ in Global Oil and Gas Markets

A Defining Moment for South Africa’s Energy Future and Continental Leadership, says NJ Ayuk

The Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber (AEC), NJ Ayuk says the launch of the South African National Petroleum Company (SANPC) is a pivotal moment for the country's energy landscape and calls on the country to champion "Brand South Africa on the global energy stage.”

The event, presided over by the Honorable Gwede Mantashe, Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, was marked by a stirring address from NJ Ayuk JD, MBA, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, who hailed the occasion as a “defining moment” for the nation.

Formed through the merger of iGas, PetroSA, and the Strategic Fuel Fund Association, SANPC is expected to play a central role in strengthening South Africa’s energy security and reducing dependence on imported petroleum products.

Mr Ayuk praised SANPC as a vital step toward reducing South Africa’s dependence on imported fuel.

In his address, NJ Ayuk emphasized the transformative potential of SANPC, describing it as a “powerful platform for local innovation, investment, and leadership.” He praised the progress already evident in South Africa’s energy landscape, including reduced load shedding and ongoing efforts to stabilize the national power grid.

 "True transformation starts at home. SANPC is a powerful platform for local innovation, investment, and leadership. It's about creating a resilient, sustainable, and proudly South African energy sector,” Ayuk stated.

Ayuk also underscored the importance of learning from global examples while forging a uniquely South African path.

"We have drawn lessons from the mistakes and successes of others. Now, we have the opportunity to chart our course. SANPC must lead in championing Brand South Africa on the global energy stage,” he said.

To the Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber, the creation of SANPC is more than a structural change—it's a strategic move to Strengthen South Africa’s energy security, reduce reliance on imported petroleum products, and unlock better governance and management of national petroleum assets.

Industry observers say the creation of SANPC sends a strong message that Africa is taking charge of its energy future and that South Africa is positioning itself as a continental leader in this transformation. With the energy world watching on, the launch of SANPC is being hailed as both a national milestone and a continental statement of intent — one that could set the tone for energy governance and investment across Africa in the years to come.

“This is not just a national milestone — it’s a continental statement of intent. Africa is rising, and South Africa is positioning itself as a serious player in shaping its energy destiny,” NJ Ayuk said.
