Cameroon’s talismanic playmaker Bryan Mbeumo has engraved his name into Brentford’s history book this season, delivering a staggering 27 goal contributions as the 2024/25 Premier League season came to a close.
The 25-year-old has been at the centre of Brentford’s attack (in conjunction with Wissa), with 20 goals and 7 assists in a campaign that has solidified his status as one of the league's most lethal attackers. His effort propelled the Bees to an impressive mid-table finish in the 2024/25 Premier League season. Mbeumo’s remarkable haul of 20 goals places him among the top scorers in the league, while his 7 assists underline his ability to create opportunities for his teammates.
“I was really happy – I think my celebration showed it,” Mbeumo said after Brentford’s 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers – the Cameroonian scored the Bees only goal. “Before that, I think the team did a great job, they helped me a lot this season to score those goals. Without them, I don’t think I would have been able to do it.”
Mbeumo’s opener against Wolves made him the second Brentford player to reach 20 goals in a single campaign (also Ivan Toney in 2022/23) and the first Cameroonian ever to do so. His goal also means that this is just the second Premier League season in which at least two African players (Salah and Mbeumo) have scored 20+ goals, after the 2018/19 campaign (Salah, Mane and Aubameyang).
“Everyone speaks about me and Wissa, but Kev (Kevin Schade) deserves a lot of praise,” Bryan Mbeumo said about his relationship with his fellow forwards this season. “He didn’t play a lot when he first joined due to injuries and stuff, but the way he has stepped up this season has been unbelievable. He has scored a lot of goals; he is improving a lot, and I think next season he is going to be amazing again.”
Under the guidance of manager Thomas Frank, Brentford has continued to punch above their weight in the Premier League, and Mbeumo’s contributions have been pivotal. His pace, clinical finishing, and versatility across the frontline have made him a nightmare for defenders.
Mbeumo's breakout season has not gone unnoticed, with rumours swirling about interest from top clubs across Europe. However, the Brentford faithful will hope their star man remains at the Gtech Community Stadium, where he has become a fan favourite since joining from French side Troyes in 2019.
“I can understand the interest in him," Brentford manager Thomas Frank said. "There should be interest in him. He is at his best age, he has scored 20 goals. I would like to keep him but we are a selling club, so, if someone comes in with the right price (we will look at it).”
