The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has announced that it has received the police inquiry file from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) concerning the death of Agnes Wanjiku Wanjiru, marking a major step forward in a case that has drawn national and international attention.
In a press statement released on Monday, April 7, 2025, the ODPP confirmed that investigations into the tragic death of Wanjiru have been concluded and a dedicated team of senior prosecutors has been constituted to conduct a comprehensive review of the file for legal advice and appropriate action.
“The DPP acknowledges the significant time that has elapsed in this matter and remains fully committed to ensuring justice for the family of Agnes Wanjiku Wanjiru,” the statement read.
Agnes Wanjiru, a Kenyan woman, was found dead in 2012 under mysterious circumstances near a British military base in Nanyuki, Central Kenya. Her death sparked outrage and calls for justice, especially after reports emerged linking her death to foreign military personnel.
The ODPP said that any decision regarding the institution of criminal charges will strictly adhere to the Constitution, the Decision to Charge Guidelines 2019, and all other relevant laws. The public has been assured of transparency and timely updates as the case progresses.
“The Office remains committed to executing its constitutional mandate in accordance with the rule of law, public interest, and the administration of justice,” the ODPP noted.
The development brings renewed hope to Wanjiru’s family and the wider public, who have long sought answers and accountability over the circumstances surrounding her death.
The ODPP has urged patience as the legal process unfolds and reaffirmed its determination to uphold justice without fear or favour.
