Wanda Matandela Officially Assumes Duties as MTN Cameroon CEO

BUEA, Cameroon – MTN Cameroon has officially welcomed Wanda Matandela as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), ushering in a new era of growth and innovation for the company in the country's dynamic telecommunications sector.

Matandela, a seasoned business leader with extensive experience in ICT, financial services, and entertainment industries, brings a wealth of expertise to the role. His appointment signals MTN Cameroon’s ongoing commitment to expanding its services, enhancing network capabilities, and delivering innovative solutions to millions of customers across the country.

Before this role, Matandela served as MTN South Africa's Chief Commercial Operations Officer, where he was instrumental in developing strategies that drove the company's commercial success. His deep understanding of the telecommunications landscape and his leadership experience are seen as crucial to MTN Cameroon's mission to maintain its competitive edge and foster greater digital inclusion in Cameroon.

With Matandela's arrival, MTN Cameroon aims to strengthen its focus on technology-driven innovation, market expansion, and financial inclusion. The company plans to invest further in infrastructure, bringing more reliable and affordable connectivity to underserved regions. His leadership is expected to guide MTN Cameroon through the evolving digital landscape and introduce new growth opportunities.

Matandela holds a BCom in Accounting, a Master’s in Information Systems from Wits University, an MBA from Stellenbosch University, and a Certificate in Leadership from IMD in Switzerland. His extensive academic credentials, combined with years of experience in senior leadership positions, position him well to lead MTN Cameroon into its next phase of growth.

Before assuming office, Wanda Matandela had his first official visit to the country on January 27, 2025. He was accompanied by a delegation led by outgoing CEO Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi. The meetings allowed Ng’ambi to formally introduce Matandela to stakeholders.

During the visit, the MTN Cameroon team met with key government officials and institutions, including Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, Technical Advisor to the Republic of Cameroon, Jean-Claude Ayem Mauger, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB), Professor Philemeon P Zoo Zame, Director General of the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC), Professor Ebot Ebot Enaw, and the South African High Commissioner to Cameroon, Mandla Langa.

The appointment comes at a time when MTN Cameroon is looking to bolster its role as a leader in digital transformation, offering an array of services beyond traditional telecom offerings, including mobile money, digital content, and cloud solutions. With the company striving to empower Cameroonians through improved digital access, Matandela’s leadership will be pivotal in shaping its future.
