President William Ruto has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art cardiothoracic centre at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet County in Kenya’s South Rift.
The first in East Africa, the new facility seeks to provide specialized cardiac and thoracic treatment, improving the country's capacity to manage complex heart and lung surgeries.
The cardio-thoracic centre was constructed through a partnership between the African Gospel Church (AGC), World Gospel Mission (WGM), and Samaritan’s Purse.
Speaking at the commissioning event, President Ruto praised these organizations for their dedication to providing affordable healthcare in collaboration with the national government.
“We invite more public-private partnerships to boost investments in the development of healthcare infrastructure and the expansion of services,” said President Ruto.
The Kenyan leader was joined at the event by Edward Graham, Samaritan Purse’s chief operations officer, WGM president Dan Schafer and Tenwek Mission Hospital board of directors chairman the Rev Robert Lang’at.
Others were Cabinet Secretaries Debra Barasa of Health and Davis Chirchir (Roads and Transport), Governors Hillary Barchok of Bomet) and Joseph ole Lenku (Kajiado), MPs and other leaders.
