Sierra Leone’s Petroleum Regulatory Agency has on Monday said that they have suspended the application for the construction of new gas stations in the Western Area and along the entire stretch of the capital to Masiaka high way with immediate effect.
‘’This regulatory policy is aimed at preventing the proliferation of unauthorized gas stations that violate suitability guidelines, safety policies and unfair trade practices,’’ the petroleum regulatory agency said in a statement.
The country’s petroleum regulatory agency added that all applications for the construction of gas stations in the specified areas will not be accepted by the top petroleum institution in the West African nation.
‘’Additionally, all unregistered gas stations under construction within the specified areas must cease operations immediately,’’ the petroleum regulatory agency added, but warned that any on-going construction without the required approval and permits will be considered illegal and subject to appropriate enforcement actions.
‘’ These directions also relate to all unregistered and unlicensed gas stations within the specified areas. Construction firms, oil suppliers and dealers are advised to cooperate with these directives or face the consequences,’’
