Dar es Salaam- The Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), in partnership with Trademark Africa (TMA), is set to transform the business landscape with the launch of Tanzania Private Sector Week (TPSW) 2024. This landmark event, celebrating TPSF's 25th anniversary, promises to spotlight the pivotal role of the private sector in driving Tanzania's economic progress.
Supported by UK International Development, Norway, and Ireland, TPSW 2024 is a critical platform for reflecting on the private sector’s evolution, showcasing both its triumphs and hurdles, and strategizing on ways to boost investment. Themed “TPSF at 25: A Legacy of Championing Private Sector Growth Towards Vision 2050,” this year's event emphasizes a celebration of past achievements and a forward-looking vision for the sector.
A central feature of TPSW 2024 is the Freight and Logistics dialogue, which addresses the sector’s vital contribution to trade and investment. This session not only reexamined strategies to enhance transportation but also introduced the Freight and Logistics Platform Guidelines and presented the FLP Committee members to both government and public.
Additionally, the session titled "25 Years of Private Sector Evolution: Past, Present, and Future" provided a thorough review of the private sector's transformative journey, offering valuable insights into its current state and future outlook. This comprehensive reflection underscores the fundamental role of the private sector in shaping Tanzania's economic and social future.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, officiating the week-long event, emphasized the private sector's crucial contribution to the economy, highlighting its role in ensuring the availability and accessibility of high-quality goods and services, as well as generating government revenue. He called on all government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to "receive and act on private sector recommendations aimed at improving the ease of doing business in the country."
TPSF Board Chairperson Ms. Angelina Ngalula remarked, “This Tanzania Private Sector Week represents a strategic milestone, amplifying the private sector's influence and aligning with Tanzania’s vision for 2050. It enhances the sector's visibility, demonstrating its positive impact on communities and acting as a driver for economic growth.
By fostering collaboration and facilitating open dialogue among diverse stakeholders, TPSW will highlight the private sector’s role in economic development and strengthen our networks with our stakeholder ecosystem.”
Mr. Elibariki Shammy, Tanzania Country Director of TMA, added, “Tanzania Private Sector Week 2024 showcases the resilience and innovation of Tanzanian businesses. Through inclusive dialogue, we can envision a thriving future for the private sector, driving economic growth, job creation, and social transformation.
Trademark Africa’s commitment to enhancing trade logistics and reducing trade barriers aligns with the objectives of this event. We are honored to collaborate with TPSF in this significant initiative.
Through this partnership, we aim to contribute to an environment conducive to sustainable and inclusive trade practices as well as promoting regional integration.”
Originally known as Tanzania Private Sector Day (TPSD), TPSW has evolved into a major assembly, attracting over 1,000 CEOs, business leaders, and industry captains from across Tanzania and the broader region. This transformation underscores the event's significance in advancing private sector development and catalyzing economic growth.
The event will feature a range of activities to commemorate and acknowledge the private sector's contributions to Tanzania’s economic growth.
Highlights include a high-level panel discussion titled “25 Years of Private Sector Evolution: Past, Present, and Future,” bringing together industry leaders to reflect on the transformative journey of Tanzania's private sector and explore strategic interventions for future growth.
Additionally, the event will honor individuals, government entities, and businesses for their outstanding contributions to the private sector's journey over the past 25 years.
TPSW 2024 stands as a beacon of both celebration and vision. It honors past accomplishments while charting a bold course for the future, reaffirming the private sector’s crucial role in shaping Tanzania's economic trajectory.
With a focus on innovation and growth, TPSW 2024 highlights the sector's enduring impact on driving prosperity and fostering sustainable development across the nation. This event not only reflects on the journey but also inspires renewed commitment to achieving Tanzania’s long-term economic goals.
