President William Ruto has condemned the attack that led to the death of Principal Magistrate of the Makadara Courts Monica Kivuti.
Ruto described her demise as “unacceptable” and something that should never happen again.
“The confrontation, threats, or attacks of any form against judicial officers are unacceptable, criminal, and an affront to the rule of law,” he said.
He assured them of their security as they discharged their mandate.
The Kenyan leader reiterated that the police exist to ensure reliable security for Kenyans, urging the police to remain faithful to their oath of service.
“Under no circumstances should they abandon this essential obligation or ever turn from their duty of protection and become threats to the safety and security of the people,” he added.
In his condolence message, President Ruto said the country had lost a firm and hardworking judicial professional who served Kenyans with dedication.
“May the Almighty God grant you strength to bear this loss.”
Principal Magistrate Kivuti was shot on Thursday, June 13, shortly after issuing a verdict in a case involving the wife of a police officer.
Chief Inspector Samson Kipchirchir Kipruto, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of Londiani Police Station in Kericho County, was disappointed with the court's judgment. He got crazy and started fire on the magistrate.
The officer's act was countered, and he was shot dead by his colleagues who were in the court.
The magistrate was rushed to the hospital, where she succumbed to the injuries.
