Frelimo SG Visits Zim’s Liberation City Museum

 Mozambique's Frelimo party Secretary General, Daniel Francisco Chapo and his delegation on Friday 21June,2024 paid a courtesy tour visit to the Liberation City's Heritage Village in Harare to familiarize himself on-going development projects at the acclaimed heritage site.           

Chapo is also the Presidential Candidate for Frelimo in the forthcoming Mozambique's national elections slotted for October 9,2024.         

According to Ambassador Kwame Muzawazi,CEO of the Institute of African Knowledge (INSTAK), the government of Zimbabwe prioritized the establishment of the Museum of African Liberation as a national priority project.      

Muzawazi said that though it is physically located in Harare at Liberation City, the museum is not solely a Zimbabwean project.   

He says that it is a global undertaking to preserve and celebrate Africa's triumph over oppression for current and future generations.     

Muzawazi said that to date,more than a dozen countries have been offered one acre of land each at Liberation City on which to erect memorials and mount displays of their liberation histories.     INSTAK's Liberation City newsletter previously reported that Mozambique was the first country that the government of Zimbabwe and INSTAK formerly approached to participate in the Museum of African Liberation in Harare.     

The Samora Machel Monument is being built on an acre of land at the museum and overlooks Samora Machel avenue, one of the busiest roads in the capital, Harare.    

Muzawazi who took Chapo and his delegation accompanied by their ZANU (PF) counterparts told the delegation at the Heritage Village housed at the Liberation City that African dishes ,including Mozambiquecan food was also prepared for visiting delegates and embassies on request.  

Muzawazi also informed the delegation that many African countries including from the SADC region served their traditional African foods at a recent belated Africa Day commemorations event held at the Heritage Village on 29 May,2024.       

The delegation was also briefed on the Liberation City's master plan project situated along Samora Machel avenue and the Golden Quarry road in Warren Park, Harare.           The Liberation City also houses the SADC square, according to Muzawazi.      He also said that a cable car project is to be developed from the Liberation City to the Heroes Acre in Harare, including a medical center facility.          

Muzawazi said that his institute is seeking Public Private Partnership ( PPPs) initiatives to furniture support intended projects.                  

Chapo said that the museum and the Liberation City were important monuments to cement relations in Africa.    

"It is important to talk about stories in Africa and the future.This is a good and massive project which we can also go and try to replicate in our home country,"Chapo said.        

He added that the initiative is important for the liberation of Africa and to cement political freedom.       

Chapo also said that it was important to advance the economic liberation of Africa since there is now unity and peace in most of the African countries.          

Joseph Nkani, INSTAK Public Relations Manager said during the tour that Chapo and his delegation visited the micro-museum where he saw the furniture which was given to former Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe by former Mozambican President Samora Machel during Zimbabwe's independence day celebrations.            

Nkani also said that the delegation visited the museum's recording studio, the Mozambique site set for the Samora Machel Monument and the Zimbabwe Defence Forces exhibition park.   

Chapo also watered the Mozambique solidarity tree planted adjacent the Mozambique national flag, the Liberation Mall and the Heritage Village.
