Roscongress Foundation to participate in organizing the African Energy Week in Cape Town

April 02, 2024

African Energy Week will take place from 4 to 8 November 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. AEW is organized under the theme “Invest in Africa’s Energy”. This year’s forum will again be a meeting place for African presidents, ministers, and politicians to meet with regional and foreign investors. The event will be an interactive multi-format exhibition and business event that will bring together international and African energy players on one platform.

The Roscongress Foundation will be a strategic partner of the Forum. A cooperation agreement between the Foundation and the AEW organizer, the African Energy Chamber, was signed at the Russian Energy Week in October 2023. The organisations have established partnership relations aimed at implementing joint projects and achieving mutually beneficial goals.

African Energy Week is a priority business platform for the energy industry across the continent. In its relatively short existence, AEW has evolved into not only the largest gathering of energy players on the continent, but also a new, innovative platform on which to build the future of Africa’s energy sector, a place to formally close deals, build partnerships and promote sustainable energy.

“Electricity is one of the most important areas of cooperation between Russia and the African continent: projects in this area are being developed with 16 African countries. In recent years, business events held in Russia, including the Russia–Africa Summits and Economic Forums, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and the Russian Energy Week, have shown that representatives of the African continent see great prospects for cooperation with our country. This interest is mutual, and Russian officials and entrepreneurs are also interested in developing relations in a wide range of areas. I am confident that this year’s African Energy Week will become a rallying point and will give an additional powerful impetus to the development of multi-format long-term cooperation between Russia and Africa and will continue the dialogue started at the Russian events,” said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.

This year’s AEW programme is a dynamic palette of opportunities highlighting the key role of oil and gas in Africa’s energy landscape. Participants will be treated to a deep dive into investment prospects and an exploration of high value businesses and regulatory frameworks. A range of projects take centre stage, from innovative renewable energy initiatives to strategic oil development projects, creating a foundation for discussion on approaches to sustainable development not only for the African continent, but for the entire planet.

The key topics of the AEW 2024 business programme include the state of the continent’s oil industry, strategies for securing capital for upstream projects, and Africa as a global LNG hub. The Forum participants will also discuss methods and technologies to increase field production, geological exploration development on the African continent, pipeline projects and energy transition in African countries. Special attention will be paid to privatisation and competitive markets, the state of Africa’s nuclear industry, and the provision of capital for renewable energy. The exhibition part of the forum will showcase African oil and gas projects and technological innovations in the continent’s oil and gas industry.

I am very excited about the partnership with Roscongress for the African Energy Week. Africa’s premier energy event. Having attended several events organised by Roscongress, I am looking forward to working together with them as a strategic partner and I have no doubt that such partnership will strengthen African Energy Week and create a home for global investors, suppliers, service companies to choose Africa as their energy investment destination of choice. Such collaboration provides an opportunity for us to use natural gas and renewables like nuclear energy to improve the lives of Africans and help us make energy poverty history.

The African Energy Week 2023, which took place in Cape Town in mid-October last year, was attended by African presidents, including President Hage Geingob of Namibia, President Macky Sall of Senegal, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, as well as energy and petroleum ministers from South Africa, South Sudan, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, Congo-Brazzaville, Ghana, Mozambique, and other countries. The Forum was also attended by a large number of international government agencies and representatives of non-governmental organizations, including OPEC, the African Organization of Petroleum Producers, the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, as well as international companies from Russia, the USA, Europe and Saudi Arabia. In total, the venue attracted over 5,000 participants from almost 70 countries, including government delegations from 24 countries and representatives of oil companies from 55 countries. The Forum was attended by the Russian State Corporation Rosatom, Gazprom, LUKOIL and NOVATEK.
