President Samia Pledges to Fight Corruption, Tax Evasion, and Ensure Fair Elections for Tanzania.

In a resolute address at the Idd Council in Dar es Salaam, President Samia Suluhu Hassan laid out her administration's determination to tackle pressing issues of tax compliance and electoral integrity. Amidst growing concerns over tax evasion and the upcoming local government elections, President Samia emphasized the imperative of fairness and justice in governance.

Expressing dismay at persistent tax evasion practices, President Samia underscored the need for fair tax collection aligned with principles of justice. She called out businesspeople using dubious tactics to evade taxes, urging them to cease hindering the country's development.

 Emphasizing her commitment to ensuring fairness in tax collection, President Samia vowed to improve systems and facilitate tax payments for the benefit of citizens.

She declared, "When I swore in the tax commissioner, I told him to go and collect taxes; we need them for development, but not oppressive taxes." She reiterated her stance on fairness, stating, "I emphasized fairness in tax collection, believing that in oppression, there are no blessings from God."

Highlighting the significant increase in tax collections under her administration's emphasis on fairness, President Samia noted a rise from 18 trillion shillings in 2021 to 24 trillion shillings in 2022. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of the government's efforts to promote equitable taxation practices.

Transitioning seamlessly, President Samia reiterated her commitment to ensuring free and fair elections, essential for upholding democratic principles. Her remarks come amidst ongoing efforts to reform Tanzania's tax system, reflecting a broader agenda aimed at promoting economic growth and social development while upholding principles of justice and accountability.

President Samia's address at the Idd Council signals a bold stance against tax evasion and a steadfast commitment to democratic governance. As Tanzania navigates these challenges, her leadership stands poised to steer the nation toward a future of prosperity and equitable development.

President Samia also addressed the upcoming local government elections, emphasizing their significance in selecting leaders closer to the people. She assured that the government intends to ensure these elections are a means for citizens to choose their preferred leaders rather than being a source of conflict.

Moreover, she highlighted the importance of education policies and curriculum revisions, urging the Islamic Leaders' Council (Bakwata) to enhance schools under its jurisdiction to serve as exemplary models in implementing the improved curriculum. She emphasized the need to address the challenges faced by graduates in coping with life after school.
