The Kenya Meteorological Department has urged Kenyans to brace for heavy downpours in the next week.
In its latest review on Monday, April 1, the department said rains will hit several regions from April 2 to April 8, 2024.
Heavy rains are expected in Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Southeast lowlands, Coast, Northeast, and Northwest regions.
The regions are likely to experience ravaging floods, too.
“Expect widespread rainfall across the country, with heavy downpours forecasted for Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley, Southeast lowlands, Coast, Northeast, and Northwest regions. Stay prepared 4 potential flooding in these areas,” said the weathermen.
Additionally, the meteorological department warned of high temperatures in Turkana, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale. On average, daytime temperatures will exceed 30°C.
The weathermen also predicted that Kenya will have warm nights, with night-time temperatures exceeding 25°C.
“Night-time temperatures are forecasted to remain relatively high, surpassing 25°C, particularly in some parts of the Coast and North-eastern Kenya,” added the department.
Kenyans have been implored to have proper ventilation and use light bedding to stay comfortable during the warm nights.
