Njiva Charities, a humanitarian base organization which works hand in hand with Njiva Ministries the sister organization in concerted effort to alleviate water poverty celebrated World Water Day in unique memorable style. Speaking in Harare at the occasion of the annual marked celebrations with the theme Water for Peace, Tsungayi Njiva pointed out that solutions, measures and ideas are crucial in eradicating water poverty globally in the midst of climate-change.
The President of Njiva Charities traced in tear -drops her retrospect days in Masvingo Province of Zimbabwe 300kms from Harare. She lamented the water challenges in rural areas and took it to be current with the real situation she views in many countries especially in 3rd World countries like Zimbabwe .
‘’ Women and children affected by Global-Warming and Climate-Change remain much vulnerable and disadvantaged in many countries of the World. This has resulted in drying up of big rivers which used to supply water and must even supply water to the communities today . How-ever, because of current climate - risks and shocks, I still see the old days situation in my girldom.
‘’ Sets of strategies are needed tactically to take sharp focus on water problems and challenges. Njiva Charities holds prayers and cultural, traditional programs which map out how such challenges and problems may be addressed in the country. Countries must take drastic measures, solutions to address climate change. Governments of the World must focus on social, economic , political and environmental factors , taking into consideration , climate change’’
‘’Southern African countries under which Zimbabwe falls faces the tough battle to wrestle Global-Warming and Climate-Change. There is likelihood of famine, hunger and starvation, however, Third World countries must get early geared to take drastic solutions and measures, bringing holistic strategies and tactical ideas to lift people out of severe water poverty which results in food-in-security.
Tsungayi lamented on the the thorny issue of lanina and elnina which are linked to very excessive, incessant heavy and sometimes low rainfalls which reduce Agricultural activity capacity in arid regions.
‘’We are part of this, therefore, let us take close heed to address issues on the ground. Despite anything to note, we need clean water. As an organization, water walks make us realize our goals and the vision we have for the future.’’
‘’We did water walks in Omah Nebraska state in USA. Volunteers carried buckets long distances, a sign to show dedication and serious commitment, thinking back home of Africa and its disadvantaged communities reeling in extreme water poverty.’’
‘’Programs were done in schools like Martin Luther King School where kids balanced water buckets on their foreheads imitating the real situation in many Third-World countries. To call for solutions, we drilled two 2 boreholes in Masvingo province. To mark this in general World -wide, we shall take a walk on Nelson Mandela Day, that is on 12 July this year. The best alternative is to spot-light the challenges , survey those areas under vulnerability and then make use of under-ground water by drilling bore-holes , dams and make use of rivers and take water-harvesting seriosly‘’ She made the last remarks.
African countries which have so-far participated and worked with the afore-said organization are as follows.
South Africa
