Tanzania Islands( Zanzibar ) has pledged to host 2023 interport games as both authority’s regulations of conducting sports tournaments have the same target of improving efficiency at work and curbing non-communicable diseases ( NCDs ) through sports .
The Minister for information youth, culture, Artists, and sports in Zanzibar , Tabia Mwita made a statement over the weekend, when he was launching the 16th interport games in 2022 in Morogoro region.
Competitions involved over 500 participants, who competed in soccer, athletics, basketball, and Tag -of- war for women and men and indoor sports.
The Minister, was inspired by the way men's team for the Tag-of-war's sports category defeated Dar es Salaam port in two rounds while the Dar es salaam team for women category won two rounds against Dar es Salaam while soccer game for men, Tanzania International Container Terminal ( TICS) team against Zanzibar port drew 0-0.
She said, body fitness is part of working efficiency in the tourism sector and strengthens the social network for workers, insisting the changing of the environment is good rather than over 5 years tournament is performed in Morogoro region.
‘’ Zanzibar is a tourist land, blessed with unique islands which will comfort players after daily competition besides will be a part of sharing knowledge on how island increase revenue from the cloves,‘’ she said.
For her part, the acting Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA)’s board Chairperson, Mariam Mkama, has promised discipline to over 500 participants in the 2022 tournament
‘’ sports is inevitable according to ports’ authority because workers work tirelessly to ensure public access to reliable service, that’s why management insists on sports as part of refreshment but discipline is crucial ‘’ she added.
Acting regional commissioner ( RC ) Advocate Albert Msando , insisted participants promote tourism attractions in Morogoro for the week they stay in, as this will increase revenue at tourism sectors through visiting national parks.
The acting cultural regional official, Khalifa Mutabuzi, congratulated the minister and said Tanzania Island pushed municipal revenue collection by sharing strategies for improving domestic tourism centers of waterfalls located just a few kilometers from the town center.
‘’ minister’s calls reflect the message of over 50 Zanzibar island's councilors who visited Mororogoro region in 2021 with the aim of sharing ideas on how to increase revenue through improving tourism sector and setting an effective revenue for development projects “ he added.
