BUEA, Cameroon—The Mayor of Bamenda I Council, Mbigha Felix, is actively seeking investment partnerships to establish a quarry and develop sustainable water projects in his municipality. He made his appeal at the third edition of the Council's International Economic Forum (JEICOM 2025), which is underway in Yaoundé.
Speaking to journalists at the ongoing forum, Mayor Mbigha emphasized the natural resource potential of Bamenda I, located in the North West Region, and the urgent need for infrastructure that can drive local development and job creation.
"We have so many rocks in our municipality. We have come with the quarry project. Maybe we can see sponsors or partners that can partner with the council so that we can exploit these rocks where we can get income to develop our community," Mayor Mbigha Felix stated.
The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute chaired the opening ceremony of the third edition of the Councils International Economic Forum dubbed, JEICOM on the theme, "Councils of Production, moving towards the maturation and concretisation of projects" This 2nd June 2025
The mayor's delegation is attending JEICOM25 – Council's International Economic Forum dubbed, JEICOM to showcase investment opportunities and attract technical and financial support. The event in Yaoundé is organized by the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (CVUC) in partnership with FEICOM (Special Council Support Fund for Mutual Assistance).
Mayor Mbigha’s quarry project aims to meet the growing demand for construction materials in Bamenda and surrounding areas while creating local employment and increasing municipal revenue.
In parallel, the mayor is also promoting a water exploitation project that would tap into the abundant water sources in the region to provide clean, reliable water for households and agricultural activities.
"We equally come with a project of water. We don't have issues with water. We have a good source of water in our municipality. By looking at how we can get experts that can come and see how we can make good use of that water so that we can give water to the population, why not the whole of Bamenda," Mayor Mbigha added.
The JEICOM 2025 forum serves as a strategic platform for councils to engage with private sector actors, development partners, and financial institutions. Councils from across Cameroon are participating, showcasing their local assets and development ambitions.
Mayor Mbigha expressed optimism that the forum would yield tangible results for his council. “I think Bamenda 1 is communities up the hills where we have all these good minerals coming out from there. We think from this JEICOM we can get maybe partners and people that can come to help us generate and have this project done in the municipality.”
