Leading Pan-African Science Academy Launches New Strategic Plan.

February 29, 2024

By Wallace Mawire

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS), the African continent’s leading pan-African purveyor of scientific research and innovation in Africa, launches its five-year strategic plan, which is anchored on its vision, renewed mission, and core values.

For nearly 40 years, the AAS has advanced science in Africa through growing world class scientific competencies and infrastructure across the continent. Today, the AAS launches its new five-year strategic plan anchored on the vision, renewed mission, and core values of AAS.

The new strategic plan is aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union Agenda 2063, which describes the “Africa We Want.” The AAS will leverage on science, technology and innovation to address Africa’s priorities and socio-economic needs across five key areas: policy and governance, natural sciences, environmental and climate change, health and wellbeing, social sciences and humanities.

The roadmap adopted by AAS in this strategic plan is clearly outlined to monitor progress and assess impact. Successful implementation of the plan will enable AAS to assert its pan-African leadership ‘think thank’ advisory role in science and become a premier player in scientific research for African development.

The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is a non-aligned, non-political, not-for-profit pan African organisation whose vision is to see transformed lives on the African continent through science. Our tripartite mandate is recognising excellence, providing advisory and think tank functions, and implementing key STI programmes addressing Africa’s developmental challenges.
