Kenyan President William Ruto has reiterated the government's commitment to tackling the unemployment bedevilling the nation.
President Ruto stated that the affordable housing initiative, known for its labour-intensive nature, has successfully employed over 130,000 Kenyans.
He also predicted that by the end of the year, this program would have helped approximately 300,000 young people find work on various construction sites.
Furthermore, the Kenyan leader highlighted the ongoing development of ICT hubs in all 1,450 wards of the East African nation, emphasizing that this initiative will create hundreds of thousands of digital jobs.
Also, he underscored programs such as exporting Kenyan workers to distant countries, establishing Special Economic Zones, and developing County Aggregation and Industrial Parks, all of which aim to expand opportunities for Kenyans.
“It would be irresponsible for us to spend KSh600 billion a year on the education of our youth without a plan on how to create jobs for them,” he said.
He was speaking at the construction launch of the 220-unit Makenji Affordable Housing Project in Kandara, Murang’a County, Central Kenya.
The project will create more than 1,600 jobs and expand opportunities for the residents.
