Kenyan President William Ruto has bid farewell to outgoing US Ambassador Meg Whitman, applauding her efforts to improve Kenya-US relations during her tenure.
In a statement, Ruto lauded Whitman for her continuous efforts to strengthen the two countries' diplomatic partnership, which recently celebrated 60 years of strong cooperation.
"Ambassador Whitman has worked relentlessly to strengthen the Kenya-United States partnership, for which we are very grateful. Her contributions have strengthened the shared principles of democracy, the rule of law, and freedom that our two countries defend,” said President Ruto.
As the US envoy to Kenya since August 2022, Meg Whitman has been instrumental in strengthening the two countries' diplomatic relations. A major turning point in their bilateral relationship was reached when the United States named Kenya a major non-NATO Ally during her leadership.
Whitman announced her resignation earlier this month, claiming her desire to return to the United States and pursue personal and professional activities outside of public service.
Whitman voiced hope for the future of Kenya-US relations despite her resignation.
"It has been an honor to serve in Kenya and witness the remarkable resilience and potential of this great nation. I am confident that our partnership will continue to thrive,” said Whitemeg.
