Kenyan MP Dan Maanzo filed a motion in the National Assembly calling for the impeachment of President William Ruto.
The motion, introduced on Monday in Parliament, accuses the President of gross misconduct, constitutional violations and failure to carry out his obligations as head of state.
MP Maanzo, a member of the opposition, stated the grounds for impeachment, claiming that President Ruto violated the Constitution by disrespecting the rule of law, weakening national unity, and participating in actions that are not in the best interests of the Kenyan people.
According to the motion, Ruto has violated Chapter Six of the Constitution, which calls for public servants to behave honourably and responsibly. Ruto's actions, according to Maanzo, have damaged the public's confidence in the presidency.
Regarding economic mismanagement, the legislator criticized Ruto's economic policies, claiming they have increased Kenyans' cost of life.
"Counties have received reduced allocations, and delays in disbursements have caused immense suffering for Kenyans," stated lawmaker Maanzo.
The motion stated that President Ruto has failed to adequately address the country's economic situation, which includes high inflation and rising unemployment.
Maanzo's motion also accuses Ruto of promoting policies and language that have worsened political and ethnic differences in the country, jeopardizing national unity.
The motion also includes incidents of alleged corruption and theft of public funds within the government, asserting that Ruto has failed to take effective action against graft within his administration.
