BUEA, Cameroon – Prominent human rights advocate Barrister Felix Nkongho, famous for his tireless efforts in defending civil liberties and promoting social justice in Cameroon, has been appointed to the Advisory Board of The Center for Human Rights & Sustainable Development (CHRIS).
Barrister Nkongho, also known as "Balla," is an internationally recognized figure in the fight for human rights and democracy. His work, particularly in advocating for the rights of marginalized groups and promoting peaceful solutions to social and political conflicts in Cameroon, has earned him widespread respect. Nkongho's leadership and commitment to justice were on full display during his role in the Anglophone Crisis, where he emerged as a key voice for dialogue and non-violence, despite facing arrest and imprisonment for his activism.
As one of five external members representing the African human rights community and beyond, Barrister Felix Nkongho brings unparalleled expertise and commitment to our mission of advancing human rights and sustainability.
Founder and president of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa (CHRDA), Barrister Nkongho's illustrious career spans roles as a legal Officer at the Sierra Leone International Criminal Court; Human Rights Officer at the UN in Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, and DRC and Lecturer on human rights law at the University of Buea.
He has addressed major platforms like the US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, the UN Human Rights Council, the Pan-African Parliament, and more. His work has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the 2024 ABA International Human Rights Award and the 2022 RFK Human Rights Award.
