Eduardo Miranda has been appointed Young Negotiators Representative for the Africa Chapter of the Association of International Energy Negotiators (AIEN), taking on a role aimed at supporting and connecting young professionals seeking to make their mark in Africa’s energy industry.
Miranda announced the appointment in a LinkedIn post, describing it as an opportunity to contribute to the professional development of young energy negotiators across Africa while encouraging greater knowledge sharing and collaboration.
“I am thrilled to announce that I am starting a new position as the Association of International Energy Negotiators AIEN Africa Chapter Young Negotiators Representative,” Miranda said. “This is an incredible opportunity to support, connect, and empower the next generation of energy negotiators across the African continent.”
The appointment comes as African countries pursue new investments across oil, gas, power, renewables and energy infrastructure. With governments seeking better terms from investors while companies look for commercially viable projects, the quality of negotiations around major energy deals remains critical.
For young professionals entering the industry, this means understanding far more than the technical side of energy development. Negotiators increasingly have to deal with project financing, contracts, local content requirements, regulatory frameworks, government priorities and the commercial interests of investors.
Miranda said he is committed to using his new position to encourage professional growth and stronger connections among young negotiators across the continent. Through AIEN, emerging professionals can interact with experienced industry figures, broaden their networks and gain greater exposure to the realities of international energy negotiations.
A graduate student and President of the Association of International Energy Negotiators chapter at Houston Christian University, Miranda has been building his experience within a professional community that brings together lawyers, executives, negotiators, policymakers and other specialists involved in international energy transactions.
In announcing the appointment, Miranda was quick to acknowledge those who have supported his journey, including AIEN Regional Director Eduany Pedro.
“A milestone like this is never reached alone,” he said, thanking the mentors and supporters who have “guided, inspired, and believed in me along this journey.”
The Association of International Energy Negotiators provides a platform for professionals involved in international energy transactions to exchange knowledge, build professional relationships and strengthen their understanding of the commercial and legal issues shaping the industry.
Miranda’s new role gives him an opportunity to help bring more young African professionals into those conversations. As investment decisions and major energy agreements continue to shape the continent’s development, building a strong generation of African negotiators will be important in ensuring that young professionals are not simply watching those deals take shape, but are increasingly at the table.
